God’s Valentine

February 10, 2008 Morning Service

Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK

Rick Boyne

Message Point: God’s message of love was sent in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Focus Passage: John 3:16

Introduction: Thursday, we’ll celebrate Valentine’s Day. “Hallmark Holiday”

I. God loves us

a. He created us (Gen 2:7, Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.)

b. He let us choose whether or not we would love Him back (Gen 2:16-17, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.”)

II. God Redeems us

a. We were sinners, separated from Him (Rom 3:23 For all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God)

b. Jesus did what we could not do (1Jn 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.) (Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. )

III. God Sends us

a. Don’t keep God all to yourself like a kid with a box of chocolates (2Kings 7:9 Then they said to one another, "We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, but we are keeping silent; if we wait until morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household.") 4 leapers sitting outside the gates when the Arameans besieged the city of Dothan.

b. Share His love. (Mark 13:10 "And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.” Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.”)
