HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

John 5:23 Jesus said, "everyone should honor the Father.” I agree! Let’s honor our Heavenly Father on this Father’s Day!

The Bible has a lot to say about this…

Psalm 96:6 “Honor and majesty surrounds Him…”

Psalm 104:1 He is “clothed with honor and majesty”

Psalm 145:5 “I will speak of your honor”

Matthew 6:9, “Our Father in heaven, honored be your name”

Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor” Revelation 5:13, “Blessing and honor and glory and power be unto him who sits upon the throne.”

Revelation 7:7 “Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to God”

Honor means to place a value or worth on someone. You see this person as someone who is valuable to you. They add value and worth to your life. As a result, you respect them greatly. They are someone you look up to and admire. To honor our Heavenly Father means to place a value and worth on him that is above anyone or anything in this life and to reverence him to the highest degree. It means admire him, listen to him, and give preference to him in every way. You see him as someone who has made a major contribution to your life and you recognize that without him you would not be who you are today.

Malachi 1:6 "A son honors his father,... If then I am your Father, where is My honor? …Says the LORD of hosts”

How can we honor our Heavenly Father this Father’s Day?

1/ We honor him when we honor his Son.

John 5:23 Jesus says, "we are to honor the Son just as we honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.” We honor God when we honor his Son. To honor the Son is to respect him, reverence him and to place a value and worth on him as we do the Father.

2/ We honor the Father when we honor his Word, the Scriptures.

Psalm 138:2 says “God has honored his word above his name.” We honor him when we honor the Scriptures. We honor his Word when we read it, learn it, and obey it.

3/ We honor him when we honor his people, the saints.

Romans 12:10 says we are to “honor one another.” The “one another” here are fellow believers, saints. We honor God when we honor his saints by loving them, respecting them and give preference to them.

4/ We honor him in every situation.

1 Corinthians 10:31 says “whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do everything to the honor of God.” Honor him in EVERYTHING!

5/ We honor him when we honor our parents.

Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” This is one of the 10 Commandments. This may be difficult for some because of past abuse, hurt, and neg-lect, but God never commands us to do something that he will not help us do. We honor him when we honor our parents.

We are to honor Jesus (John 5:23), God’s Word (Ps. 138:2), the saints (Romans 12:10), parents (Ex. 20:12), widows (1 Timothy 5:3), older men (Leviticus 19:32), pastors (1 Timothy 5:17), all people (1 Peter 2:17), those in authority (1 Peter 2:17), wives (1 Peter 3:7), husbands (Esther 1:20), but first, above all, we are to honor our Heavenly Father (Matthew 6:9).

All of the above are valuable to us. We are to hold them in high esteem. Respect them, admire them, listen to them, give preference to them. They’ve made a major contribution to your life. Without them you would not be who you are today.

Without our Heavenly Father we would not be here; we would not be saved, forgiven, born again. He’s done for us what no one else can.

Let us give him the highest honor and reverence that he deserves.

I agree with Jesus! "Everyone should honor the Father.”

Let’s honor our Heavenly Father on this Father’s Day!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
