Good morning, Church family! We're going to dwell in the Book of Romans today, specifically Romans 15:13 that says, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Isn't that a comforting, reassuring verse? It speaks volumes about God's unfailing love, the power of hope, and the importance of trusting in God's plan.
And speaking of trusting in God's plan, author Corrie ten Boom once said, "Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God." And isn’t that the truth? We may not always know what lies ahead, but we can be certain that God does, and His plans are always for our good.
So, as we delve into today's sermon, let's bow our heads and open our hearts to the Lord in prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for this day and for your word that gives us hope and comfort. As we explore your scripture today, open our minds to understand, our hearts to receive, and our will to obey your word. Help us, Lord, to trust in your unfailing love and remember that our hope comes from you alone. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

God's unfailing love is a constant reminder of His enduring affection and care for us. This love is not like the love we experience in our human relationships, which can often be fickle, conditional, and fleeting. God's love, on the other hand, is steadfast, unchanging, and eternal. It is a love that is not based on our performance, our worthiness, or our ability to reciprocate. It is a love that is freely given, without any conditions or expectations.
The apostle Paul: In his letter to the Romans, paints a vivid picture of this love. In Romans 8:38-39, he writes, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." This passage underscores the unshakeable nature of God's love for us. No matter what we go through in life, no matter the trials, tribulations, or challenges we face, nothing can separate us from His love.
Demonstrated in His forgiveness: Despite our sins and shortcomings, God is always ready to forgive us. In the Book of Psalms, David writes, "But with you, there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you." (Psalms 130:4). God's love is not just about feeling good or being comforted. It's about transformation. It's about being forgiven, restored, and empowered to serve Him with reverence.
Not just a passive emotion: It's an active force that compels Him to act on our behalf. This is most evident in the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16, one of the most well-known verses in the Bible, states, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This ultimate act of love demonstrates the lengths to which God is willing to go to save us. His love is not just about words or feelings; it's about action. It's about sacrifice. It's about giving up what is most precious to Him for our sake.
A source of hope and comfort for us: As we read in Romans 15:13, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." This verse reassures us that as we trust in God, He fills us with joy and peace. His love gives us hope, even in the midst of our darkest moments. It's a love that sustains us, uplifts us, and gives us the strength to face whatever comes our way.
A model for us: As recipients of His love, we are called to love others in the same way. In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells His disciples, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." (John 13:34). This command challenges us to love others unconditionally, sacrificially, and selflessly, just as God loves us.
