Summary: How Majestic Is Your Name

Psalms 76 - "How Majestic Is Your Name"

I. GOD - THEIR DESIRE - 1-3

His Revelation - 1 In Judah is God known:

His Reputation - his name is great in Israel.

His Residence - 2 In Salem also is his tabernacle,

1. His Place - 2 In Salem also is his tabernacle,

2. His Presence - also is his tabernacle,

3. His People - and his dwelling place in Zion.

His Refuge -

3 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.

His Defence is Sure, Seen and Celebrated.

1 O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home;

2 Under the shadow of thy throne, Thy saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is thine arm alone, And our defence is sure.

II. GOD - THEIR DELIVERER - 4-7

His Majesty - 4 Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.

The Source of His Majesty - 4 Thou art more glorious

The Depth of His Majesty - more glorious and excellent

The Height of His Majesty - than the mountains

The Length of His Majesty - the mountains of prey, more than the everlasting mountains

His Might -

The Merry are Spoiled - 5 The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep:

The Mighty are Spent - and none of the men of might have found their hands.

The Militant are Spurned -

6 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.

His Mastery - 7 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?

His Person - 7 Thou, even thou, art to be feared:

His Presence - and who may stand in thy sight

His Provocation - when once thou art angry?

III. GOD - THEIR DEFENCE - 8-10

The Source of Judgment -

8 Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven;

The Severity of Judgment - the earth feared, and was still,

The Scene of Judgment - 9 when God arose to judgment,

The Sense of Judgment - to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

The Sum of Judgment - 10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee:

The Silence of Judgment - the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.

IV. GOD - THEIR DELIGHT - 11,12 -

To God Belong -

All Payments - 11 Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God:

All Praises - let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared. (10 lepers) where are the nine?

All Punishments - 12 He shall cut off the spirit of princes:

All Powers - he is terrible to the kings of the earth.
