7 Steps to having Church Growth?

Acts 2

Introduction

Pentecost in the Old Testament occurred 50 days after Passover. New Testament occurs 50 days after Christ arose from the Grave. OT Pentecost witnessed the slaying of some 3000 souls. NT Pentecost witnessed the Saving of some 3000 souls.

· Ex 32:38

“And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.”

Must Be in one Accord Acts 2:1

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place”

· Trans = Like-mindedness. Occurs 12 times in NT 11 in Acts

· Early Disciples were in unity

Must be in one Place Acts 2:1, 5

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place”

“And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every

nation under heaven”

· Wondering Stranger

· Wayward Saint

· Worshipping Saint

Must Worship truthfully Acts 2:2

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.”

· Evidence of their Worship

(a) Mighty rushing wind 2:2

(b) Cloven tongues of fire 2:3

(c) Filled with the Holy Ghost 2:4

(d) Became instantaneously Bilingual 2:4, 8

Must Have the Right Message behind the Pulpit Acts 2:38

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

(a) Bible 2:16, 25, 34 (ref. Joel 2:28-32, Ps 16-8-11, Ps 110:1)

These words pricked them at their Heart

(e) Repent

Must Evangelize Acts 2:6, 41

“Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together”

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”

· Reward for evangelism 3000 souls saved

Must Train the New Converts Acts 2:42

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

Members must allow Christ to Work in their Live Acts 2:44-47

“And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”

(a) Gathered together 2:44 (at church)

(b) All things common 2:44 (came to worship)

(c) Sold their goods 2:45 (sacrifice)

(d) Daily in the temple 2:46 (steadfast and faithful, had Desire)

(e) House to House 2:46 (shared the Gospel)

(f) Gladness 2:46 (Happy)

(g) Praising God 2:47 (Glorified God)
