God is bigger than our doubts and through faith in Him, even amidst our struggles with unbelief, we can experience His miraculous healing power.

Introduction

Good morning, church family. I hope this day finds you blessed and ready to receive God's word. Today, we're going to dive into a scripture that reminds us of a powerful truth: God is bigger than our doubts. There are moments in life when our faith can waver, where doubt creeps in, and we question if God can truly help us in our dire circumstances.

In these moments, we can find solace in the words of C.S. Lewis who said, "Faith is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted, in spite of your changing moods".

Let's turn our Bibles to Mark 9:14-29:

God is Bigger than Our Doubt

In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments of doubt, moments where we question the very foundation of our beliefs. These moments can be disconcerting, even frightening, as we grapple with questions that seem to have no clear answers.

A vivid illustration of this: Here, we encounter a desperate father, wrestling with his doubts, yet still reaching out to Jesus in hope. His plea to Jesus, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" is a testament to the struggle that many of us face. It is a raw and honest admission of the tension that exists between faith and doubt. Yet, it is in this very tension that we see the magnitude of God's power.

God's response is not one of condemnation or dismissal: Instead, Jesus acknowledges the father's faith, however small, and performs a miracle that not only heals the boy but also affirms the father's faith. God does not require perfect faith from us. Even in our moments of doubt, when our faith is as small as a mustard seed, God can still work miracles. Our doubts do not diminish God's power; rather, they provide an opportunity for God to reveal His greatness.

God's response is not just about performing miracles: It is about His presence with us in our moments of uncertainty. God does not abandon us when we question; instead, He draws near to us. He invites us into a conversation, encouraging us to voice our doubts and fears. He listens to our questions, no matter how difficult or uncomfortable they may be. In doing so, God demonstrates that He is not threatened by our doubts. His sovereignty is not undermined by our questions. Instead, our doubts provide an opportunity for us to experience God's love and grace in a deeper way.

God's bigness is not just about His power and presence: It is also about His patience. God is patient with us in our moments of doubt. He does not rush us to faith, but gently leads us, providing us with the time and space we need to wrestle with our questions. This patience is a reflection of God's love for us. He values our relationship with Him more than our ability to have all the answers. He is more interested in our journey of faith, with all its ups and downs, than in a mere intellectual assent to a set of beliefs.
