Sermons

Summary: In this sermon we take a look at two more characteristics about Jesus. He is our faithful friend and supreme conqueror.

Three weeks ago we started our new series, “Jesus 360” … a full look at the person of Jesus … who He was and who He is.

In our theme verse we discovered that people have always had strong opinions about who Jesus is.

Jesus’ first question is “Who do people say that I am?” And his disciples rattle off several rumors they have been hearing – John the Baptist, Elijah, and a prophet.

Then Jesus asks the next question, “Who do you say that I am?” We didn’t read it but the next verse gives Peter’s answer – “The Christ. The Son of the Living God.”

So far we have seen Jesus as our …

•Authentic Leader

•Relentless Lover

•Extreme Forgiver

Tonight, we are going to look at two more characteristics about Jesus that made him so unforgettable.

1. Jesus is our FAITHFUL FRIEND

Friends are like good health; you don’t realize what a gift they are until you lose them.

Matthew 11:19: “And I, the Son of Man, feast and drink, and you say, ’He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of the worst sort of sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by what results from it” (NLT).

Jesus was called a “friend of the worst sinners.”

Hey guess what? We are included in that list.

Jesus is our friend. That has to be one of the coolest things in the world.

It is really hard to imagine Jesus … the creator of the world … is our friend, but he is!

One of the hardest things in life is BEING ALONE. No one likes to feel alone. No one likes to feel like no one really cares.

LIFE PRINCIPLE: Jesus is the cure for being alone.

When you feel like the world has walked out on you … never forget that God is “with you always, even to the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).

2. Jesus is our SUPREME CONQUEROR

Jesus conquered a few things that no person has ever been able to conquer:

•Sin – he never sinned – not one mistake was ever made

•Death – he rose from the dead – death could not hold him

•Hell – he took back the keys of life – he owns eternity

READ DURING THE VIDEO CLIP:

Romans 6:9-11: “We are sure of this because Christ rose from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. He died once to defeat sin, and now he lives for the glory of God. So you should consider yourselves dead to sin and able to live for the glory of God through Christ Jesus” (NLT).

Hebrews 2:9: “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death , so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (NIV).

1 Corinthians 15:55-57: “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. How we thank God, who gives us victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord” (NLT).

Revelation 21:4-5: “… and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new” (NASB).

Jesus makes EVERYTHING NEW!!!

He is our supreme conqueror.

CONCLUSION

Jesus is your …

… authentic leader

… relentless lover

… extreme forgiver

… faithful friend

… supreme conqueror

Do you feel alone? Jesus is your faithful friend.

Do you feel like a loser? Jesus made you to win.
