This Gospel was written much later than the other three and contains fewer parables and fewer miracles.
John was present at the crucifixion and was nearby in the Garden of Gethsemane.
This Gospel is intensely personal and says more about the person and divinity of Jesus than any other Gospel.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Jesus is eternal.
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Jesus has witnessed all human history. He has seen every triumph and every evil.
This is good news for us! Nothing in our lives surprises Jesus. He has seen it all, healed it all and forgiven it all.
Jesus is the King we need.
Jesus was present when all things were created.
Thrones, powers, and rulers were made by him and through him.
He is king of kings, Lord of Lords and every knee will bow before him.
Jesus is the light we require.
Jesus is the source of all spiritual light and life.
John 1:14 NIV
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Jesus became human without surrendering his Deity.
Jesus was born of a woman, grew from baby, to boy, to man.
He was hungry, tired, angry, thirsty, and felt pain, just like us.
Gnosticism – a belief that Jesus was not fully human, but mostly a spiritual man. People who believed this could not fathom that Jesus suffered or experienced a real death.
Jesus was always a perfect man. Jesus was always a perfect God.
Jesus is the perfect mediator for our sins.
The first Adam was merely a man, so he fell. The second Adam was both man and God, so he completely conquered.
