To explore God's love for us, Jesus' obedience to God, and the example set by God for us to follow, emphasizing that God desires us to grow and become more like Jesus.

Introduction

Good morning, Church family! Today, we're going to dive into a powerful passage from 2 Timothy 2:1-12. This scripture is packed with profound life-altering lessons about The Father's Love for His Son, The Son's Obedience to His Father, and The Father's Example for His Son.

Christian author, Max Lucado, once said, "God loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus." This quote, friends, is the heart of our message today.

Opening Scripture Reading: Let's read the scripture together. [Read text.]

Opening Prayer: Let's open in prayer. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word, for the love you have for us, and the example you set through your Son, Jesus Christ. As we delve into this Scripture today, we pray for open hearts and minds to understand and apply your divine wisdom in our lives. May the Holy Spirit guide and help us fully grasp the depth of your love, the obedience of your Son, and the example you've set. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I. The Father's Love for His Son

The Father's love for His Son is beautifully illustrated in the passage we just read. This love is not just an abstract concept but a living, breathing reality that has profound implications for our lives. It's a love that is unfathomable, unconditional, and unending.

A. The love of the Father for the Son is first and foremost a love of choice. In the same way that God chose Israel to be His people, He chose Jesus to be His Son. This choice was not based on merit or worthiness but on God's sovereign will. This is a powerful reminder that God's love for us is not based on our performance or our ability to earn His love. It is a love that is freely given, a love that chooses us even when we are unlovable.

B. The depth of the Father's love for His Son is also seen in the way He entrusts His mission to Him. In verse 2, Paul tells Timothy to entrust the gospel to reliable people who will be qualified to teach others. This mirrors the way the Father entrusted His mission to His Son. He didn't just send Jesus to earth with a message; He sent Him with the most important mission in the history of the world - the salvation of mankind. This shows the immense trust and confidence the Father has in His Son, a testament to His deep love for Him.

C. Another aspect of the Father's love for His Son is seen in the way He empowers Him. In verse 1, Paul encourages Timothy to be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. This grace is not just a gift from the Father; it is the very power of God working in and through Jesus. The Father doesn't just love His Son; He empowers Him to fulfill His mission. This is a love that not only believes in the beloved but also empowers the beloved to achieve their full potential.

D. The Father's love for His Son is also a sacrificial love. In verse 10, Paul talks about enduring everything for the sake of the elect so that they too may obtain salvation. This echoes the sacrificial love of the Father who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all. The Father's love for the Son led Him to the greatest sacrifice of all, a sacrifice that brought about our salvation.

E. Lastly, the Father's love for His Son is an eternal love. In verse 11, Paul reminds us that if we died with Him, we will also live with Him. This is a promise of eternal life, a life that is only possible because of the Father's eternal love for His Son. The Father's love for the Son is not just for a moment or a season; it is a love that lasts forever.
