Summary: In this message we look at verses nine and ten and the phrase "if his son asketh".
Mathew Seven-Seven People Part 2
(If His Son Ask)
Matthew 7:7-11 (King James Version) Pastor Ken Crow
7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
This morning in this second message out of Mathew 7 we again look at the instruction of Jesus Christ himself directly to all who follow him.
In this message we are going to look closely at verses nine and ten.
There are two words that stand out here in both of these verses.
“If” and “ask” are very important in these scripture and are very important in our life as Christians .
Now we need to understand that as sons of our earthly or natural father we come under certain natural rights. I know and I think it is the norm that as a father that our two daughters can walk into our house over here and feel that they can be at ease to use just about anything that we own. See as children we inherit the benefits that have been obtained by our parents. Let me share a scripture here.
Romans 8:17 (King James Version)
17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
There are things that we just come under and obtain because we are who we are in our natural parents and there are things we come under and obtain because we are children of God.
1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
The name of this message is Mathew seven –seven people.
Mathew seven-seven people are people who ask God.
Mathew seven –seven people are people who seek God.
Mathew seven-seven people are people who knock on the door of God.
Before we can become a Mathew seven-seven person or even a Mathew seven-seven church we must come to realize in reality our standing in the eyes of God.
Why? Because until we fully realize that God thinks of us as children, his off spring we not only loose out on what is inherently ours but also we will not ask for those things that are in the asking category.
Now I have a wonderful dad. I am blessed to have a wonderful man named Carl Crow as my father. I can walk in over at his home and go to the fridge and get a cold drink or a sandwich or sit on his couch and absorb the heat or air for comfort. I can watch his television and turn on a light. My daughters Shenna and Destany can come over to my house and share the roof , the windows and the comforts without asking as I can with my dad. These things are inherently obtained. But if I go to dads and want his truck I am going to have to ask. If Jasmine wants a hundred bucks from grandpa she is more than likely going to have to ask.
Oh I may bless her sometimes just because I love her as my grandchild and sometimes God blesses us just because he loves us but if Jasmine is in need I desire that she comes to me and ask.
The word of God is full of scripture telling us to ask. A lot of times we just sit around thinking well one day God will feel so sorry for me that he will just drop upon me the things I am in need of.
Jeremiah 33:3 (King James Version)
3Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Jeremiah was a great prophet of God but he was instructed here to call upon God or ask.
David throughout the span of his kingship was a man who not only called on God but was a man who was always asking God.
Jesus himself communicated with God the father and ask for God to do certain things.
We will never obtain anything spiritually major unless we become askers of God.
Elisha ask for the double portion. A lot of folks go around talking about the mantle of Elijah falling on Elisha but it never have would fallen if Elisha had not ask .
