Points Covered: The message of resurrection is an Easter sermon that proves the resurrection and also gives five powerful message of resurrection.

1 Corinthians 15:12-20

Today the world is celebrating the resurrection Sunday. The resurrection of Christ is the greatest event in history. Resurrection is the cornerstone and foundation of the gospel. In order to be saved you have to believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

The message of resurrection is that Jesus Christ rose from the grave; and that we one day will receive a body like unto His glorified body, and we will live in bodily resurrected form through all eternity. Christianity promises a physical resurrection. The model for that is the glorified resurrection body of the Lord Jesus. A body that could be seen, touched. A body that could walk, eat, and talk

The message that God has delivered to sinners throughout all of Scripture is that death does not end our existence. Death is merely the doorway into eternity. And everyone goes through that doorway and everyone lives forever, some to the resurrection of life, and some to the resurrection of damnation according to John 5. Every human being ever born will live forever, fully conscious either in everlasting joy or everlasting suffering.

The hope and the message of resurrection has always been at the heart of believers’ faith. It was the hope of Abraham. It was the hope of Isaiah. It was the hope of Daniel. It was the hope of Job. Job said, “Though worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” Jesus said in John 14:19 Because I live, you also will live. Jesus said in John 11:25 I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.

1. Infallible evidences of a real resurrection.

a. The testimony of Jesus before his death.

Mark 9:31 Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.”

b. The empty tomb.

Luke 24:1-3 1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

c. The angelic testimony.

Luke 24:4-6 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen!

John 20:11-12 11Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

c. The testimony of Jesus post resurrection.

John 20:14-17 14At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. 15He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” 16Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!”(which means “Teacher”). 17Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

d. The testimony of the women.

John 20:18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!”

Luke 24:9 When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.

e. The testimony of the guards.

Matthew 28:2-4 2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

Matthew 28:11-15 11While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
