Summary: The Lord's prayer is much more than a prayer. It reveals who God is from the mouth of one who knows him intimately - Jesus.
TEXT: Matthew 6:9
"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name."
IS GOD YOUR FATHER?
In this mini series, we are looking more closely at "The Lords Prayer.' We started by saying, it is much more than just a prayer. It gives details about who the father is. In the last post, we looked at, 'Our Father' as My Father.' God is my father. Is he your father?
GOD'S DWELLING PLACE
Living things are defined by their habitats. Our Father, my father, lives in heaven. Our father, who art in heaven tells us clearly that God dwells in heaven."But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased" (Psalms 115:3). Earth is the most beautiful place in the universe, but in comparison to heaven; it is a junkyard. Heaven is a place of bliss and rest. "They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun. For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.” (Rev 7:16-17).
A SPIRITUAL HOME
God does not dwell in heaven alone, there are personalities that populate heaven. Heaven is not a mythical place, it is as real as earth is."But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels" (Heb 12:22). God, the father is a spirit and does not dwell in temples made by human hands. Heaven is a spiritual place and we cannot see it with physical eyes. God is so big that even heaven and earth cannot contain him and is so small that he can dwell in the heart of men. His throne is in heaven and his footstool is on the earth. So, God dwells in heaven, fills the earth with his presence and glory and dwells in the heart of regenerated believers. What an awesome father. "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands" (Acts 17:24).
GOD DWELLS IN HIS CHILDREN
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" (l Cor 3:16).
"Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" (Isa 66:1). Declare with me: The Spirit of God lives in me.
GOD IS PREPARING A PLACE FOR HIS CHILDREN IN HEAVEN
Jesus is in heaven with God preparing a place for his brothers and sisters in faith. Our father loves us so much that he wants us to be where he is; but flesh and blood cannot inherit the dwelling place of God (John 14:3). Therefore, when Jesus returns he will turn our physical and mortal bodies to spiritual and immortal bodies so that we can dwell with our father (1 Cor 15:50-54). There will a transformation at rapture that will enable believers to live in eternity with the father. Rev 21:3 says:
"And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." You will not miss your place in heaven in Jesus name.
JESUS IS THE WAY TO HEAVEN
Heaven is the abode of our father; my daddy and it is a prepared place for prepared people. If you claim God to be your father and you don't know how to get to your father's house, then your claim is invalid. But if you receive Jesus today as your Lord and Saviour, he will not only reveal the way to you, he will lead you to the father because Jesus is the WAY to the father. There is no other way (Acts 4:12). He is the son that leads other sons and daughters to the father's house.
My Father and my God, please help me not to miss the way home in Jesus name.
My eternal home is in heaven.
God bless you. Shalom.
