Series: A COVID Christmas 2.0 [#5]

NEED GRACE?

John 1:14

Introduction:

Now that Christmas is over, we can move on to something else, right? That’s often how we handle things and maybe that’s the problem- We do the Christmas stuff and then get back to normal. What are we without Christmas? As we finish our series, do you need grace?

Because we have all sinned, we have no hope on our own. That is why Christ came to this Earth in the flesh. Without Christmas, there is no Easter and without Easter, Christmas is nothing. Everything we base our entire religious beliefs on as Christians is centered on the birth, perfect life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Jesus did all that He did because He loves us. Through Christ, we have been shown mercy and grace. Mercy is not getting what you deserve, and grace is receiving something you don’t deserve.

John 1:14

God’s grace gives us…

1. Hope.

Hope is a cherished desire- Something that you really want to happen. On our own, we are dirty and without hope. We just wander around trying to figure out how to make it better; but God gives us hope through Jesus.

The Jewish people were experiencing terrible times. Their enemy seemed to be winning, their land wasn’t producing, their people were discouraged, etc… God gave hope to Isaiah with a promise that the Messiah would come.

John 1:1-5

God’s grace gives us…

2. Life.

Hope isn’t enough on its own. We can hope for things all the time, but that doesn’t mean it will happen. The reason I have hope in eternity in Heaven is because I have placed my hope in the source of eternal life- Jesus.

John 15:9-11

God’s grace gives us…

3. Peace and joy.

When we have life through Jesus Christ, we have access to all of God’s riches. These riches may not be seen in dollar amounts or in possessions; but the riches God has to offer is much better. Can you imagine having peace although their war raging all around you? Can you imagine having joy although nothing seems to be going right?

We have reason to celebrate. We have access to all of the peace and joy you could ever imagine. This morning, we are going to remember and celebrate the reason for the season through Lord’s Supper. The Lord’s Supper is a celebration for Christians to partake in. We are told in Scripture that before we partake of this that we must examine our lives.

The invitation is your opportunity to surrender your life to Christ. This is your time to get it right.
