Explores the unfailing, unchanging love of God, encouraging believers to trust and find hope in this divine love.

Introduction

Good morning, dear friends. It's a joy to be here with you today, standing on the firm foundation of our shared faith, in the warm embrace of our fellowship. We are about to embark on an uplifting exploration of one of the most comforting passages in all of scripture, Romans 8:31-39.

This passage, my friends, is a beacon of hope, a testament to the unchanging, unfailing love of our God. It speaks to the core of our faith, the very essence of our belief, and it does so with a power and a clarity that is as humbling as it is inspiring. It is an invitation to trust, to hope, and to love with the fullness of our hearts, secure in the knowledge that we are held in the loving embrace of our Creator.

In the words of Craig Groeschel, "There is no sin too great for God's grace. There is no habit too big for his healing. There is no label too strong for his love." Grace teaches us that God loves because of who God is, not because of who we are. What a beautiful image, what a comforting thought. To know that we are not alone, that we are not forgotten, that we are loved with a love that is as unchanging as the God from whom it flows.

Let us now turn to the scripture itself:

"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: 'For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.' No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Confidence in God's Unchanging Love

The love of God, my friends, is a constant. It is a force that does not waver, does not falter, does not change. It is as steadfast as the rising sun, as enduring as the mountains, as deep as the ocean. It is a love that is not influenced by our actions, our failures, or our successes. It is a love that simply is.

This love is the foundation of our faith: It is the rock upon which we stand, the anchor that holds us fast in the stormy seas of life. It is the assurance that, no matter what we face, no matter what trials or tribulations come our way, we are not alone. We are held, we are cherished, we are loved.

Sacrificial love: The scripture tells us that God did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all. This, my friends, is the ultimate expression of love. It is a love that is willing to sacrifice, a love that is willing to give everything, a love that is willing to endure the unimaginable for the sake of the beloved. It is a love that is not deterred by the cost, not diminished by the pain, not deterred by the sacrifice.

This love is not a passive love: It is an active love, a love that is constantly at work in our lives. It is a love that justifies, a love that intercedes, a love that conquers. It is a love that is not content to simply watch from a distance, but a love that is intimately involved in every aspect of our lives.

Nothing can separate us from this love: Not trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword. Not death or life, not angels or demons, not the present or the future, not any powers, not height or depth, not anything else in all creation. This, my friends, is the assurance of our faith. It is the promise that, no matter what we face, no matter what trials or tribulations come our way, we are held in the loving embrace of our God.

This love is not a distant love: It is a close, personal, intimate love. It is a love that knows us, a love that understands us, a love that cares for us. It is a love that is not deterred by our flaws, not diminished by our failures, not deterred by our weaknesses. It is a love that sees us, knows us, and loves us just as we are.
