But as for you, continue to hold to the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you learned [them],

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. Cleanse ourselves from ignoble purposes.

"So whoever cleanses himself [from what is ignoble and unclean,"

Ignoble means:

1. Of low birth or family; not noble; not illustrious.

2. Mean; worthless; as an ignoble plant.

3. Base, not honorable; as an ignoble motive.

Isaiah 1:16 (Amplified Bible)

Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes! Cease to do evil,

2 Corinthians 7:1 (Amplified Bible)

THEREFORE, SINCE these [great] promises are ours, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates and defiles body and spirit, and bring [our] consecration to completeness in the [reverential] fear of God.

James 4:8 (Amplified Bible)

Come close to God and He will come close to you. [Recognize that you are] sinners, get your soiled hands clean; [realize that you have been disloyal] wavering individuals with divided interests, and purify your hearts [of your spiritual adultery].

1 John 3:3 (Amplified Bible)

And everyone who has this hope [resting] on Him cleanses (purifies) himself just as He is pure (chaste, undefiled, guiltless).

B. We are instrument for noble purposes

"who separates himself from contact with contaminating and corrupting influences] will [then himself] be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work."

1 Peter 3:15 (Amplified Bible)

But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.

1. Make holy

John 17:17 (Amplified Bible)

Sanctify them [purify, consecrate, separate them for Yourself, make them holy] by the Truth; Your Word is Truth.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (Amplified Bible)

But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin].

Ephesians 5:26 (Amplified Bible)

So that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word,

We are already made holy by GOD's Grace not on our part and we have not contributed to it anything at all.

2. Useful to the Master

2 Timothy 3:16 (Amplified Bible)

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action),

Ephesians 4:28 (Amplified Bible)

Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him be industrious, making an honest living with his own hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.

Philemon 1:11 (Amplified Bible)

Once he was unprofitable to you, but now he is indeed profitable to you as well as to me.

We are made useful to the Master. Remember our usefulness depends 100% on the Potter and not on the clay, we are the clay, we only submit and obey to His Will.

3. Prepared to do any good work

Luke 1:17 (Amplified Bible)

And he will [himself] go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn back the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient and incredulous and unpersuadable to the wisdom of the upright [which is the knowledge and holy love of the will of God]—in order to make ready for the Lord a people [perfectly] prepared [in spirit, adjusted and disposed and placed in the right moral state].
