Objects of Holy Week
Matthew 21:1-11
Rope - Used to tie the donkey upon which Jesus rode into Jerusalem.
Garments - Laid upon the donkey and strewn in the streets.
Branches - Waved and laid in the streets.
Bag with coin money in it - The price for which Judas sold Jesus.
Compare that to the price that Jesus paid for our sins.
Matthew 26:14 "Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him."
A pitcher, basin and towel - John 13:4 "He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all."
Matzo bread - Jesus used it to symbolize His body
"Jesus took bread, and blessed and brake it, and gave to them…" (Mark 14:22)
Cup - Mark 14:23 "And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it. 24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. 25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
Hymnal - "And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives"
Nails - Nails didn’t keep him on the cross, love did.
Communion: Play dramatized reading of Mark 15:1-39 as the elements are being served. After reading is completed, play "There’s Room at the Cross"
After communion, sing Hymn #7 "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross."
