I. EXORDIUM:

If the old covenant temple received so much love and care from the LORD, how much more the believers as temple of the Holy Spirit?

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show the advantage of the new covenant temple over the old covenant temple.

IV. TEXT:

1 Kings 9:3 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The Lord said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your petition. I have set this Temple apart to be holy—this place you have built where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart.

"I have set this Temple apart to be holy—this place you have built where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart."

V. THESIS:

CHRIST made a better new covenant temple in the New Testament and that is our body.

VI. TITLE:

Old Covenant Temple

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. 1 Kings - second in a series of three double books: 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 & 2 Chronicles, originally they were single books Samuel, Kings and Chronicles, the Septuagint translators made the division

The Septuagint translators were the ones who made the divisions, and they did so more or less for the convenience of the reader.—Source:

B. Traditional writer: Prophet Jeremiah

C. Common expression: "as David his father" occurred 9 times

D. The word "temple" was mentioned 6 times in the book of 1 Kings. 6 is man's number, 7 is GOD's number. It gave clue that the temple of the Old Covenant or Testament is man-made. (1 Kings 6:37-38)

1 Kings 6:37-38 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

The foundation of the Lord’s Temple was laid in midspring, in the month of Ziv, during the fourth year of Solomon’s reign.

The entire building was completed in every detail by midautumn, in the month of Bul, during the eleventh year of his reign. So it took seven years to build the Temple.

VIII. MAIN BODY:

A. The temple is made holy by GOD.

We are made holy or separated unto GOD, or dedicated unto GOD by His CHRIST's Divine Efforts, not our weak human efforts.

"I have set this Temple apart to be holy"

1. House or Temple came from the Hebrew word:"bayith" meaning a house, temple, family

2. Hallowed or holy came from the Hebrew word:"qadash" pronounced clean, consecrated, dedicated, purified, sanctified.

1 Corinthians 3:17 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.

1 Corinthians 6:19 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,

Ephesians 2:21 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord.

1 Peter 2:5 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

We are the temple of GOD in the New Covenant, and like the Old Covenant temple we are made holy because GOD who is Holy dwells within us.

Isaiah 57:15 (New King James Version)

For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

3 Factors that made us the new covenant temple:

1. We are the new covenant temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 3:16)

1 Corinthians 3:16 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

2. We are made holy by GOD thru CHRIST. (Ephesians 4:12, Colossians 1:22, Romans 8:10)

Ephesians 4:12 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.

Colossians 1:22 (New Living Translation, Second Edition)

Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

Romans 8:10 (New International Version)

But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.

3. Our body is an earthly tent and our heavenly eternal body was made by GOD. (2 Corinthians 5:1,Hebrews 11:10)
