To show what we need to imitate from Paul.

2 Timothy 3:10 (Amplified Bible)

Now you have closely observed and diligently followed my teaching, conduct, purpose in life, faith, patience, love, steadfastness,

Imitate Paul as he imitates CHRIST.

Paul's example

A. Author: Apostle Paul

B. Date written: A.D. 65 to 67

C. Purpose: Encourage and instruct a young pastor in his ministerial work

D. To whom written: Timothy

E. Main themes: Faithfulness and boldness in the ministry

F. Keywords:

2 Timothy 2:3 (Amplified Bible)

Take [with me] your share of the hardships and suffering [which you are called to endure] as a good (first-class) soldier of Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 3:14 (Amplified Bible)

But as for you, continue to hold to the things that you have learned and of which you are convinced, knowing from whom you learned [them],

A. Imitate Paul as he imitates CHRIST in seven areas of his life:

1. Paul's teaching - Grace

Philippians 3:17 (Amplified Bible)

Brethren, together follow my example and observe those who live after the pattern we have set for you.

2. Paul's life - Work hard to help the weak

Acts 20:35 (Amplified Bible)

In everything I have pointed out to you [by example] that, by working diligently in this manner, we ought to assist the weak, being mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed (makes one happier and more to be envied) to give than to receive.

The saying "It's more blessed to give than to receive" was derived from this verse, and it originally refers to giving of one's own life (not money) but people of this world have turned it as motivation to give out their hard-earned money.

3. Purpose

2 Timothy 1:9 (Amplified Bible)

[For it is He] Who delivered and saved us and called us with a calling in itself holy and leading to holiness [to a life of consecration, a vocation of holiness]; [He did it] not because of anything of merit that we have done, but because of and to further His own purpose and grace (unmerited favor) which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began [eternal ages ago].

4. Faith

Romans 1:17 (Amplified Bible)

For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith.

Paul is living a lifestyle of faith.

5. Patience

1 Timothy 1:16 (Amplified Bible)

But I obtained mercy for the reason that in me, as the foremost [of sinners], Jesus Christ might show forth and display all His perfect long-suffering and patience for an example to [encourage] those who would thereafter believe on Him for [the gaining of] eternal life.

2 Timothy 4:2 (Amplified Bible)

Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.] And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching.

Paul is not using his own patience but CHRIST's patience that's why it's not consumed.

6. Love

Galatians 5:22 (Amplified Bible)

But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,

7. Endurance

Romans 15:4-5 (Amplified Bible)

For whatever was thus written in former days was written for our instruction, that by [our steadfast and patient] endurance and the encouragement [drawn] from the Scriptures we might hold fast to and cherish hope.

Now may the God Who gives the power of patient endurance (steadfastness) and Who supplies encouragement, grant you to live in such mutual harmony and such full sympathy with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,

Imitate Paul as he imitates CHRIST.

1 Corinthians 11:1 (Amplified Bible)

PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).
