Why Me?
Luke 1: 26 - 38
Intro: Have you ever been asked to do something and you ask the person, “How am I going to do that?” Maybe you’ve been chosen to do something and you ask, “WHY ME? PICK SOMEONE ELSE.
I Mary is approached by Gabriel, a messenger from God and asked to do something that is humanly impossible.
A Most of the women here today would either laugh, faint or say, “You’ve got to be kidding!”
B Mary doesn’t ask, “Why me?” She just asks, “How?”
C God chose the lowly rather than the high and might to fulfill the plan of redemption.
II We see here that we cannot anticipate the ways that God will break into human history.
A Mary is an example of one who is obedient to God eve at great risk to herself.
B Mary is portrayed here as obedient and submissive.
C Mary demonstrates that we are to be included in the work of God to which we are called.
Concl: I believe God’s Christmas wish for humanity is that we, the followers of Christ, will believe that nothing is impossible with God for those who invite the Holy Spirit to work through them to bring about God’s will. --- We must remember that like Mary, we are incapable, in and of ourselves, to accomplish God’s will.
