Summary: Proverbs 3 - Part 2

Proverbs 3:13 – 35

Verses 13 – 15

Q: If I just had _____________, I would be happy!

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom.”

- Happy / Blessed are those who fear God, seek wisdom and obtain understanding; these lead to a happy life – no matter the circumstances.

- Wisdom is better than material possessions (silver, gold, rubies).

Verses 19-20

“The Lord by wisdom founded the earth.”

- Creation is an intelligent design.

- What happens when your hands get wet for a period of time?

- The placement of the moon and the effects of gravity.

- The placement of the sun – any closer we burn to death, any further away, we freeze to death.

Verses 23-26

“Then you will walk safety in your way, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”

- The principle Solomon returns to (again and again) is that God guides those who live for him.

- When the storm came, Jesus was asleep – why? He knew God’s plan and trusted in God’s plan.

Verses 27-28

“Do not without good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so. Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Go and come back, and tomorrow I will give it.’ When you have it with you.”

- Another practical example of being generous.

- Do it quickly (don’t hesitate).

Verse 31 – 35

“Do not envy the oppressor and choose none of his ways; for the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord…the curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the just. He gives grace to the humble, the wise shall inherit glory but shame shall be the legacy of fools”

- The way(s) of the wicked might seem good and they might seem appealing, but their ways oppress others.

- We should not envy them because God is going to judge them.

- Pride stands in opposition to God, humility is the path he calls us to and is the life Jesus lived.
