PROVERBS FOR PARENTS TEXT PROVERBS 22:6

PS. 127:3-5

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Introduction

The book of Proverb is not a book of Promises as much But a book of Instruction.

In this passage we are going to look at today is simply saying if we pour our selfs into our childern when they are young, they will have what they need to be wise when they are old.. amen

But on the flip side of Proverbs Instruction to parents is it’s Instruction to young people which carries a central theme.

AND THAT IS YOU’RE NEVER TO OLD TO BREAK YOUR PARENTS HEART.

Parents never stop trying to Influnce their childern and childern never stop being able to impact their parents Hearts. AMEN.

LETS TALK ABOUT IT NOW.

Our Text........Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The Hebrew word is a mouth full.

The Hebrew word {H/aunak} for Train It means to Dedicate and It include’s the Ideal of setting aside, Narrowing or hedging in.

The word is sometimes used in the sense of {start} child traing Involves "Narrowing" a childs conduct away from evil and toward Godliness and starting him in the right Direction.

It also means to give to God or to set for Divne service and Prepare the for his or her Future responsibilities.

Note.

Every one is Traing their childern whether you know it or not. You dont have to be fous on the training to be doing it.

story.

A House wife spent a day with her young 3 year old fixing dinner for some company that was coming over that night. Came time to eat and she ask her 3 year old to ask the Blessing, she was a little shy and said Mommy I dont know what to say, And mom beant down and told her to just what she has heard mommy say, And then the 3 year said Dear Lord, why did I invite these people over to eat supper with us tonight? Amen........

WE ARE TRAING OUR CHILDERN AS WE GO ALONG IN LIFE.

As we have look at our Text I want us to take a look at what Parents are require by God to do.

#1 PARENTS ARE CALLED UPON TO "DISCIPLE" THEIR CHILDERN.

Ever time you see the word "My son" in Proverbs. Take note what follows It will be Instruction from Solomon to his own son.

Example.

Prov. 1:8-19 Instruction for peer pressure

prov. Chapter 2 Instruction for Paying attention to wise consel.

Prov. chapter 4...Instruction on Protecting your heart.

prov chapter 7 Instruction for guidance for partents

so you see we are called to "Disciple" our childern.

#2 PARENTS ARE CALLED UPON TO "DISCIPLINE" OUR CHILDERN.

Disciple and discipline are two side to the same coin. To offen we assocate "Discipline" with Punishment or correction

But discipline is simply Traing which "Produces" a disciplined person or a "disciple"

NOW LETS FOCUS ON THE WORD "DISCIPLINE" AND WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM IT.

PROV. 3:11-12

11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:

12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

QUSTION?

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THAT?

#1 DISCIPLINE IS "PROPER"FOR EVERY CHILD.

PROV29:17

Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

IT SEEMS THAT THE WORLD HAS ADOPTED AN IDEAL THAT CHILDERN SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BLOSSOM WITH LITTLE OR NO GUIDANCE.

Thats like running a "Locomotive" off the end of the tracks with no more Rails to guilde it.

#2 DISCIPLINE "PROVES" OUR LOVE FOR OUR CHILDERN

PROV:13:24

HE that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes

Here a qustion that goes around. HOW COULD MAKING A CHILD CRY BE A LOVING THING TO DO?

Thats the number one reason many Parents give for not disciplining there childern because they love them too much to hurt them.

But the bible says we hate them if we dont.

DR. JAMES DOBSON SAYS THAT DISCIPLEING ITS NOT SOMETHING YOU DO TO YOUR CHILD BUT SOMETHING YOU DO FOR THEM.

#3 DISCIPLINE "POSTPONED" WILL BE INEFFECTIVE.

PROV:19:18

Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

The word "hope" there means while there Lives can be shaped and direct’ed.
