Do you know the reasons for the 5-fold ministries?
II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
To show the intentions of GOD for the 5-fold ministries.
Ephesians 4:12 (Amplified Bible)
His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church),
GOD's intentions are enumerated here.
Reasons for five-fold ministries
A. Author: Apostle Paul
B. Date written: 60 A.D. to 64 A.D.
C. Purpose: To show believers their position in CHRIST and encourage them to walk accordingly
D. To whom written: church at Ephesus
VIII. MAIN BODY:
A. To prepare GOD's people for works of service
"His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people)"
James 2:22 (Amplified Bible)
You see that [his] faith was cooperating with his works, and [his] faith was completed and reached its supreme expression [when he implemented it] by [good] works.
1 John 2:5 (Amplified Bible)
But he who keeps (treasures) His Word [who bears in mind His precepts, who observes His message in its entirety], truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected (completed, reached maturity). By this we may perceive (know, recognize, and be sure) that we are in Him:
Colossians 3:14 (Amplified Bible)
And above all these [put on] love and enfold yourselves with the bond of perfectness [which binds everything together completely in ideal harmony].
Love is not yet made perfect in us and we do still hate our enemies that's why this goal or GOD's intention is not yet completed so therefore the five-fold ministries mentioned in Ephesians 4:11 are not yet done and still in action in the church today.
Ephesians 4:11 (Amplified Bible)
And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers.
B. To build up the body of CHRIST
"[that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church), "
It's for edification: to build up believers.
Romans 14:19 (Amplified Bible)
So let us then definitely aim for and eagerly pursue what makes for harmony and for mutual upbuilding (edification and development) of one another.
2 Corinthians 10:8 (Amplified Bible)
For even though I boast rather freely about our power and authority, which the Lord gave for your upbuilding and not for demolishing you, yet I shall not be put to shame [for exceeding the truth],
Ephesians 4:29 (Amplified Bible)
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.
To prepare GOD's people and to build, are the two primary intentions of GOD that's why the 5-fold ministries continues up today.
