Youth Sermon: Receive the Spirit

The Power of the Holy Spirit

Picture this: You're in a room with your friends, and you're scared because you think people are out to get you. Suddenly, Jesus shows up! That's what happened to the disciples in this story. Jesus shows up and breathes on them, saying, "Receive the Holy Spirit."

Now, I want you to imagine a balloon. (Hold up an uninflated balloon.) This balloon is like us without the Holy Spirit - kind of lifeless and deflated. But when we receive the Holy Spirit, it's like this balloon being filled with air. (Blow up the balloon.) The Holy Spirit gives us life and power!

The Holy Spirit helps us in so many ways. He gives us the power to share Jesus with others, guides us to understand God's Word, produces good fruit in our lives like love, joy, and peace, helps us when we pray, and assures us that we belong to God.

The Holy Spirit gives us life and power!

The Encouragement from Jesus

Jesus also encourages us. In the story, He shows His disciples His hands and side, proving He's alive and has beaten death. He's with us, even when we're scared or unsure. He's got our backs, and He's sending us out to share His love with others.

The Promise of Faith

And then there's the promise of faith. Jesus showing up after His resurrection proves that He keeps His promises. Our faith isn't just about believing stuff; it's about a relationship with Jesus, who's alive and active in our lives.

So, what does this mean for us? Well, it means we're not alone. We've got the Holy Spirit in us, giving us life and power. We've got Jesus encouraging us and sending us out. And we've got a faith that's real and alive.

So, this week, let's live like we've got the Holy Spirit in us. Let's be bold in sharing Jesus with others. Let's lean into Jesus when we're scared or unsure. And let's hold onto our faith, knowing that Jesus is alive and active in our lives.
