Youth Sermon: Remain

Introduction

Today, we're going to talk about remaining firm and steadfast in Jesus. Life can be pretty crazy sometimes, and it's easy to get distracted or lose our grip on what really matters. But Jesus is like the ultimate anchor, keeping us steady and secure no matter what storms come our way.

So, let's dive into the Bible and see what it has to say about this. Check out John 15:5-8 and Psalm 23:1-3. These verses remind us that apart from Jesus, we can't do anything. He's the one who gives us strength, peace, and guidance in life.

Jesus is like the ultimate anchor, keeping us steady and secure no matter what storms come our way.

The Anchor and the Baboon

Now, I want to show you something that'll help you remember this important truth. (Bring out a small anchor or a picture of an anchor.) This anchor represents Jesus. Just like an anchor keeps a boat from drifting away, Jesus keeps us from drifting away from God. He's always there, holding us steady and secure.

But sometimes, we can be like a stubborn baboon. Have you ever heard about the salt, tree, and baboon trick? African bushmen use this trick to find water. They put a block of salt in a hole, and a baboon comes along, grabs the salt, and gets its hand stuck. All the baboon has to do is let go of the salt to be free, but it won't. It's so focused on holding onto the salt that it can't see the bigger picture.

We can be like that baboon sometimes, holding onto things that don't really matter and missing out on the amazing life Jesus has for us. But when we let go of those things and hold onto Jesus, we find true peace, joy, and purpose.

Application and Prayer

So, how can we apply this to our lives? First, think about what you might be holding onto that's keeping you from fully trusting Jesus. It could be a bad habit, a toxic relationship, or even just a mindset that's holding you back. Then, ask God to help you let go of those things and hold onto Him instead.

Let's pray together: Jesus, thank you for being our anchor in the storms of life. Help us to let go of anything that's keeping us from fully trusting you. Give us the strength and courage to hold onto you, no matter what comes our way. Amen.
