As we think about the trials, testing, and tasks we face, both in our church and personal lives, often we become disheartened feeling we have little to offer and what lies ahead is too great. But God will use our little in a great way if we will let Him.

When Little Is Much “Then He said, ‘To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, ...read more

Size doesn’t matter, because we have the resources of Jesus Himself and His Word to multiply disciples of Christ.

Stir What You Got (Mark 4:21-34) Andy Eddington, once the president of Shriner College in Texas, loved sugar in his coffee. On one occasion at a greasy spoon near Dallas, he dumped not one, not two, but three teaspoonfuls of sugar in his coffee. As the waitress watched, Andy said, “Ma’am, ...read more

    - I don’t recall ever hearing a sermon on this passage, which is ironic because when you dig into it, it’s a pretty important one. Harvest Job Assignments: Our job is to sow seeds and bring in the harvest; God’s job is the growth. - Mark 4:26-29. A. We sow seed. - Going back to the ...read more

  • The Small Seed

Contributed by Christian Cheong on Aug 17, 2008

The Kingdom of God will grow because God is working. Growth comes from Him and it has nothing to do with the size of the seed.

Both parables set out to teach us, "What the Kingdom of God is like." Note two things,(1) Growth is taking place because God is working, (2) Growth has nothing to do with the Size of the Seed Growth comes from God. Jesus uses the illustration of a farmer to emphasize this point. • The ...read more

I used to think the phrase, Kingdom of God, meant only some future time, but I have come to understand that it means the Christian experience under the Lordship of Christ.

I wonder what you think of when you read or hear the phrase, “Kingdom Of God?” Perhaps you think of some future time, when there will be perfect peace and no problems, when the ferocious beasts of the forest can be led around by little children. That’s what I used to think it meant, but I have ...read more

Contributed by Peter Loughman on Aug 6, 2007
    based on 30 ratings

The three parables are examined in detail. These parables are eschatological in nature. These parables are written to give us reassurance in our faith right now and also to give us insight concerning the nature of the coming of the kingdom of God.

Today in our Scripture Jesus teaches us three short parables which all tie together to form a fuller understanding of who God is and how he operates in our lives. You’ll notice as we read the Scripture today there are some verses that are quite difficult to understand and on a first reading we may ...read more
