It is human nature to compare ourselves to one another. We do it all of the time very naturally and almost without noticing it. That's what was happening in Corinth and it was giving the Corinthians a false impression about who to trust.
There is an old saying “appearances can be deceiving.” Or: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” In the case of the Corinthians, those sayings apply very well. They fell into a trap that many of us fall prey to, using human senses to judge spiritual realities. In this ...read more

Paul had his critics there in Corinth and in this last section of the letter Paul makes a strong defense against them. We learn some helpful things from Paul about dealing with our own critics.

This challenging passage gives us insight into Paul's handling of contention.
- Let me acknowledge up front that this can be a challenging passage. It’s not easily clear how all the pieces go together. As we wander through these six verses, hopefully we can bring them together in a meaningful way. THE STARTING POINT OF THE CHURCH FIGHT: Paul didn’t measure up to their ...read more
There is a belief in the church today that a person called to minister can still be effectual in reaching others for the sake of the Gospel because “the gifts and calling of God are without repentance” (Rom 11:29 KJV).
In other words, a person can be in active and open unholy living and in rebellion to God’s law and still retain their position to be used to bless others without changing their sinful ways through repentance. It is true that God can use anything to promote His kingdom. He even used a donkey to get ...read more

Men tend to judge speakers according to a standard that Paul did not even desire to meet. Maybe our judgement needs a little realignment with scripture.
