Summary: To show that JESUS CHRIST shows us mercy and pity, so we can imitate these mercy and pity for others to know Him.

I. EXORDIUM:

Are you merciful?

Yes. The LORD JESUS CHRIST desires mercy not sacrifice.

Matthew 9:13 (Amplified Bible)

Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy [that is, readiness to help those in trouble] and not sacrifice and sacrificial victims. For I came not to call and invite [to repentance] the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), but sinners (the erring ones and all those not free from sin).

II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:

Believers/unbelievers

III. OBJECTIVES:

To show that JESUS CHRIST shows us mercy and pity, so we can imitate these mercy and pity for others to know Him.

IV. TEXT:

Luke 10:37 (Amplified Bible)

He answered, The one who showed pity and mercy to him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise.

V. THESIS:

Praise, worship, glorify, adore, bless, honor, acknowledge and thank You very much LORD JESUS for we enjoy Your mercy, receiving your mercy so that in turn other people will receive Your mercy through us and by our way of life.

Romans 11:31 (Amplified Bible)

So they also now are being disobedient [when you are receiving mercy], that they in turn may one day, through the mercy you are enjoying, also receive mercy [that they may share the mercy which has been shown to you—through you as messengers of the Gospel to them].

VI. TITLE:

Show pity and mercy to anyone

VII. EXPLICATION:

A. Author: Dr. Luke, The Beloved Physician (close friend and traveling companion of Paul)

B. Audience: Theophilus (Greek means friend of GOD, a Christian)

C. Purpose: To give a connected and orderly narrative of the life of CHRIST as seen by eyewitnesses

VIII. MAIN BODY:

Luke 10:37 (Amplified Bible)

He answered, The one who showed pity and mercy to him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do likewise.

Luke 10:37 (King James Version)

And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

A. He that shows pity and mercy is the real neighbor

"And he said, He that shewed mercy on him."

Proverbs 14:21 (Amplified Bible)

He who despises his neighbor sins [against God, his fellowman, and himself], but happy (blessed and fortunate) is he who is kind and merciful to the poor.

Ephesians 3:18-19 (Amplified Bible)

That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it];

[That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!

2 Corinthians 8:9 (Amplified Bible)

For you are becoming progressively acquainted with and recognizing more strongly and clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (His kindness, His gracious generosity, His undeserved favor and spiritual blessing), [in] that though He was [so very] rich, yet for your sakes He became [so very] poor, in order that by His poverty you might become enriched (abundantly supplied).

Ephesians 5:2 (Amplified Bible)

And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.

Do you want to be a good neighbor to everyone? Then show mercy and pity.

Pity, mercy or "eleos" from the Greek word meaning: compassion, tender mercy. It is tender mercy that brought JESUS to the cross for us.

GOD, the Son, the LORD JESUS has the ability to show compassion and die for His enemies, that's us.

Romans 5:8 (Amplified Bible)

But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.

B. JESUS wants us to imitate Him.

"Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise."

1 John 3:23-24 (Amplified Bible)

And this is His order (His command, His injunction): that we should believe in (put our faith and trust in and adhere to and rely on) the name of His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and that we should love one another, just as He has commanded us.

All who keep His commandments [who obey His orders and follow His plan, live and continue to live, to stay and] abide in Him, and He in them. [They let Christ be a home to them and they are the home of Christ.] And by this we know and understand and have the proof that He [really] lives and makes His home in us: by the [Holy] Spirit Whom He has given us.
