Summary: Selfishness is a dangerous sin that hinders the steps of every person.

Selfishness: the sin that bleeds the work of God. God makes no allowances for sin of any kind. He condemns it wherever it is found. In good men or bad, Judas or David, all sin, adultery or a evil look; stealing or covetousness; 1 Corinthians 6:9-12

Covetousness is selfishness. Selfishness is condemned even in the mildest form. Selfishness is an act of caring unduly regarding one’s own comfort or advantage, in disregards of, or at expense of others.

It causes one to look at everything in the light of how it will affect himself. Selfish people are like the dead sea, take everything in but give nothing out. Selfishness is a dangerous sin that hinders the steps of every person. A selfish person is constantly drawing attention to himself in disregard to others.

I. Covetousness is Selfishness

1. It is sin

2. 1 Corinthians 6:10

3. Luke 12:15-21, the world would call this ma smart, but God called him a fool. His outstanding sin was selfishness.

II. Selfishness Brings Loss of Life and Property

1. Joshua 7:24

2. Israel had won the victory at Jericho, but defeated at Ai, Achan’s selfishness.

3. Unconsecrated, unaffiliated Christians, selfishness defeats the New Testament church in doing the job God wants us to do.

III. Nabal, a Man with Great Possessions, Refused to Help David

1. 1 Samuel 25

2. Selfishness bleeds or drains the life out of the church.

3. The results of Nabal’s selfishness was death. Verse 38

4. Selfishness is touchiness, easy to offend a selfishness person, liberal geivers never gets offended. Psalm 119:165

5. Those who love God’s word, don’t wear their feelings on their sleeve.

IV. Selfishness Brings Defeat in Spiritual Living

1. The difference between big men and little men, Abraham unselfish, Lot covetousness for well-watered plains.

2. 1 Samuel 15:3, 8, 9, 24, 26; selfishness defeated Saul spiritually.

V. Selfishness is Curable

1. Luke 19:8

2. Zacchaeus was cured when he got saved.

VI. How to be Cured of Selfishness

1. Confess your selfishness to God, be forgiven and cleansed. 1 John 1:9; Psalm 32:5

2. Set your vision of that person that you would like to be. Philippians 4:13

3. Be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

4. Set your eyes upon Calvary. John 10:17-18

5. Jesus was unselfishly doing a saying not My will but Thine be done.

VII. What Happens When Selfishness is Cured?

1. A temperate life will be produced. Titus 1:7

2. A saintly life will be produced. 2 Peter 1:5-6
