Jesus is the 'Bread of Life' who provides eternal satisfaction and life, and we should seek Him above all earthly desires.

Introduction

Good morning, brothers and sisters! We are here today to dive deep into the profound message of John 6:25-35.

In the words of Dallin H. Oaks, "I believe many of us are over-nourished on entertainment junk food and undernourished on the bread of life." This is exactly what we’re going to be discussing today, how Jesus is all we need to be nourished with.

Now, let's read the Scripture passage together:

Let's bow our heads and open our hearts in prayer:

Dear Lord, we thank You for the Word that You have prepared for us today. We ask for Your wisdom and understanding as we delve into the bread of life discourse. Open our hearts to fully grasp the magnitude of Your love and the satisfaction that only You can provide. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, the true bread from heaven, we pray. Amen.

Let’s get started!

The Bread of Life

In the passage we just read, Jesus introduces Himself as the 'Bread of Life.' This is a profound metaphor that carries a depth of meaning. Bread, in the ancient world, was a staple food. It was the basic dietary item, a symbol of sustenance and life. By referring to Himself as the bread of life, Jesus was communicating that He is essential to life. Just as our physical bodies need physical bread, our spiritual selves need Jesus. He is the source of spiritual nourishment, the one who sustains us and gives us life.

In response to the people's request for a sign: This was similar to the manna their ancestors received in the wilderness. They were looking for a physical sign, a physical satisfaction. But Jesus was pointing them to a deeper, spiritual satisfaction. He was saying, "I am the true manna, the true bread from heaven. I am the one who can truly satisfy your deepest hunger."

It’s about spiritual sustenance: It's about the deep, soul-level satisfaction that only Jesus can provide. It's about recognizing our deep spiritual hunger and turning to Jesus to satisfy it. It's about understanding that Jesus is the only one who can truly fill the emptiness inside us.

Verse 35: "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst," He is inviting us into a relationship with Him. He is offering us a satisfaction that the world cannot give, a satisfaction that is not based on circumstances or material possessions, but on a deep, personal relationship with Him.
