Summary: The Bible speaks of the breath of God as a symbol of His life-giving power and presence.

Just as our physical bodies need oxygen to breathe, our spiritual lives need the breath of God to survive and thrive.

The Breath of God in Creation

In Genesis 2:7, we see God breathing life into Adam, the first human. This act of breathing represents God’s creative power and His desire to impart life to His creation.

- “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7)

The Breath of God in Scripture

Throughout the Bible, the breath of God is associated with the Holy Spirit, who brings inspiration, guidance, and new life.

- “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

- “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” (Job 33:4)

- “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.” (Psalm 33:6)

The Breath of God in Our Lives

Just as God breathed life into Adam, He desires to breathe new life into us through the Holy Spirit.

- “And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’” (John 20:22)

- “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9)

The breath of God represents His life-giving power and presence in our lives. As we seek to live a life pleasing to Him, let us remember to breathe in the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to guide, inspire, and empower us each day.

- “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13).

The Breath of God and Prayer

- “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” (Romans 8:26)

The Breath of God and Worship

- “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” (Psalm 141:2)

The Breath of God and Revival

- “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” (Ezekiel 37:9)

The Breath of God and Spiritual Life

- “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you — they are full of the Spirit and life.” (John 6:63)

May we continue to breathe in the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit, and may our lives be filled with the breath of God.
