Summary: Short Funeral Sermon for a Believer

MARK 4:35-41

I. The Story

A. The storm came upon this group of men and they did not know what to do. They feared for their

lives and in their great emotional state they cried out to God.

B. Jesus calmed the storm.

II. The Meaning for Them

A. The men in the boat were saved from drowning. They cried out to God and He heard them.

B. They realized that they must trust in Jesus who could save them and calm the storm.

III. The Meaning for Us

A. You may feel like you are in the midst of a storm right now. Of course it is not a literal storm, but a

storm of emotions and memories and questions and hurts.

B. I want you to know that Jesus can calm the storm of your hearts.

1) Jesus promises comfort for those who mourn

2) Jesus promises peace for those who cry out in times of need

3) Jesus demonstrated that He can calm the storms. Trust in Him.

Seeing now that our brother has been set free from the physical body to enter into a new life with a spiritual body stronger and better than the flesh, we commit his spirit into God’s hands. We give thanks to God for the gift of his earthly life; for the promise of a sure resurrection, and a happy reunion in the Life to come. Glorious is the Life of the Spirit, and glorious is the thought that each stage of life faithfully lived is a step nearer to that Heavenly Home promised by God
