“Decision Time”

Matthew 19:16-22

1. The REQUEST of the Rich Young Ruler (v. 16) Jeremiah 33:3; Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:7; Psalm 55:22

a. The man LIVED as a rich ruler. Luke 18:18, 23; Romans 8:5-6

b. The man asked the LORD Jesus about LIFE-ETERNAL (v. 16b) John 3:4-7; 6:47; 10:27-28; 17:3; Romans 6:23

2. The RESPONSE of the LORD Jesus. (vv. 17-19) Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 7:7-8

a. The LORD Jesus points to the man that the LORD alone is Good. (v. 17) Romans 3:12, 23; Isaiah 64:6; Psalm 51:5; 100:5; 107:1; 145:9; James 1:17

4. The REMEDY of the LORD Jesus. (v. 21)

b. Jesus tells the man that "one thing" is LACKING in him. (Mark 10:21) Matthew 5:3; Ecclesiastes 3:11

d. Jesus tells the man to give his money away LIBERALLY to the poor. (v. 21b) 1 Timothy 6:17-19

5. The rich man RESISTS the commitment to Jesus and goes his own way saddened. (v. 22) Matthew 7:13; Matthew 10:32-33; John 3:17-18; Romans 3:16; Ecclesiastes 8:6

a. The rich man LEAVES dejected because his trust was in his possessions. (v.22) Matthew 6:24; Colossians 3:2; Philippians 3:18-19
