THE CURE- PEOPLE MATTER

Romans 16:1-27

Introduction:

In a School Administrator’s meeting this week, we went through an interesting exercise- Each person had 5 sticky notes and a paper plate. We were instructed to write a thank you note on each sticky note and stick them on the back of the plate. We then were told to get up and place each sticky note on the front of that person’s plate. In a room of over 50 people, (over ½ of them were Principals); I was surprised that I received several notes thanking me for my hard work and for how I treat people like they matter. We were told to sit down and read the notes and think about them for a moment. I was not able to do that because an Assistant Principal sitting at my table did not have anything on his plate. I quickly wrote a note and put it on his plate. I cannot imagine how he felt; but I know how I would have felt.

As we conclude the Letter to the Romans, we find Paul recognizing individuals and giving the people some last important reminders. I want each of you to realize that people matter.

Romans 16:1-15, 21-24

Remember that people…

1. Make up the Church.

It’s easy to forget that the Church is not a building. It’s people. Christians all over the World make up 1 Church. This local congregation that we call Bel Aire Baptist Church is made up of people, not a building.

Remember that people…

2. Need recognition.

Notice that Paul recognizes the work of these people. He lets them know that their hard work is appreciated. We need to remember to recognize people for their hard work.

Romans 16:16

Remember that people…

3. Need to be greeted.

Now, I’m not suggesting that you greet one another with a kiss- That may not go over very well; but, we need to learn to greet people. Sometimes when you stop someone and say “Hi”; you build them up by simply greeting them.

Romans 16:17-19

Remember that people…

4. Who cause trouble should be avoided.

This is something we try to teach our children; but as adults, we don’t think that it is necessary. You need to keep away from people who cause trouble.

Romans 16:20

Remember that people…

5. Are God’s tools for victory.

Notice that it says, “Will soon crush Satan under your feet.” God will use His children to be victorious over Satan. God doesn’t need our help; but He uses us for His purpose if we allow Him to do so.
