God’s goodness toward us is more than we can comprehend! In-fact, because of God’s goodness we are alive today. No one is just saved or healed; it’s because of God’s goodness. When deliverance comes it’s because of God’s goodness. When a person isn’t saved it’s not because God hasn’t tried to reach out to them. Vs.9 say’s, The LORD is good to all…
I. Everywhere you read in God’s word you will find time and time again a God that goes the extra mile.
A. The text say’s, The LORD is gracious, full of compassion, slow to anger, great in mercy, He’s good to all, His tender mercies are over all His works!
B. Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.
C. Most commentaries agree that David not only penned this Psalm, but he sang this Psalm to himself on many occasions.
D. Romans 11:22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.
E. In other words if a person won’t consider God’s goodness he or she will have to over-look all of God’s creation! ( There’s a decision to be made!) Say, choice!
I. Let’s just look at a few areas that God’s goodness can be seen. 1. Through Salvation: John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
A. Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
B. Jesus told the woman at the well in John 4: 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
C. God sent His only Son to give the world living water! ( Even to a prostitute.)
II. God’s goodness can be seen #2. Through His creation.
A.Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
B. Isaiah 55: 12 For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
C. Think about that, all of creation applauds as you allow Jesus to take control of your circumstances!
III. God’s goodness can be seen, #3. Through out eternity!
A. II. Cor.12:1-4 It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. 3 And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— 4 how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
B. Revelation 21:1-4 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
C. Just remember Moses in Exodus 33 how he needed assurance; therefore, God showed Moses His backside. Remember what God said as He passed by Moses. "Grace and goodness!"
