Good morning, Church Family! I hope you've all had a blessed week, and I'm thrilled to see you here today. We're going to dive into a gem of a passage from Psalms, one that shines a brilliant light on the goodness of our God. The unfailing, unparalleled, unending goodness of our God.
Like Kirk Manton says, "God is good, not because of the wonderful, but the other way around. The wonderful is, because God is good."
Let's read together Psalms 34:4-8:
"I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him."
The Unfailing Goodness of God
The unfailing goodness of God is the belief that God, in His divine nature, is inherently good and that His goodness is constant, unwavering, and never fails. This is a truth that is beautifully encapsulated in Psalms 34:4-8, where the Psalmist declares that he sought the Lord and was delivered from all his fears. This is a testament to God's unfailing goodness, His readiness to answer when we call, and His power to deliver us from our fears and troubles.
His steadfast love and mercy: Despite our shortcomings and failures, God's love for us remains constant. His mercy is new every morning, and His grace is sufficient for us. This is a goodness that is not dependent on our actions or our worthiness, but on His nature. God is good, not because we deserve it, but because that is who He is. This is a comforting truth that assures us of God's unchanging love and favor towards us.
His faithfulness: God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should change His mind. When He makes a promise, He keeps it. When He says He will do something, He does it. This is a goodness that is reliable and trustworthy. We can depend on God because He is faithful and true. His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, guiding us in the way we should go.
His providence: God is our provider, our Jehovah Jireh. He knows what we need even before we ask and He provides for us according to His riches in glory. This is a goodness that is generous and abundant. God does not give sparingly or reluctantly, but lavishly and willingly. He is a good Father who gives good gifts to His children.
His protection: The Psalmist declares that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. This is a goodness that is protective and defensive. God is our refuge and fortress, our ever-present help in times of trouble. He is our shield and buckler, our defender and deliverer. He protects us from harm and delivers us from evil.
