Love …

If we see love as a way of “feeling whole” ..

Remember Charlie Brown? Ever feel like that?

Other cultural understandings of love …

Top Ten Love Songs

(I like Dave a lot more than Jay)

1. You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker 1975

2. As Time Goes - By Dooley Wilson, Herman Hupfeld 1942

3. Something - The Beatles, George Harrison 1969

4. The Rose - Bette Midler 1980

Something more timely that I think has some lessons on how we can spread the love of God to others

(at this point I played the music video “Everyday” which is available various places online or you could tape it from VH1 or MTV)

What Can We Learn?

We all search for love

Sometimes “in the wrong places”

He didn’t succeed at first (10 failures!)

In fact, some were hostile

· The first lady … reluctant, then 2! (husband pulled her back!)

· Sometimes have to

· Interrupt (cell call)

· Chase down (cyclist)

· Do all the work (bus stop)

· Stop talking and DO SOMETHING! (news show)

· Working with “broken people”

· EVERYONE needs to feel loved

· Scary what people go thru to feel loved!

•Who Responded “Best”??

–For me … the kids!

–Why?

–Accepting

–Non-judging

–PHYSICAL!

•Did he change anyone?

•Did anyone change him?

•“Blue Man Group”

What about us?

•We need to feel loved

•NOT NOT because we are insecure

•NOT NOT because of any weakness

•It is ‘by design’

•Pascal spoke of a “God-shaped vacumn”

•We ALL can make a difference!

•We can be a “blue person”

•We can “leave a mark” … of His love!

“For God so

loved the world

that he gave his only Son, so that

everyone who believes in Him

will not perish but

have eternal life.–

Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.) 1996.

To review,

“The Basics”

•He loves all of us

–Prompted action (ultimate love!)

–Everyone

–No “bouncer”

•1 condition === believe!

•More than ‘history’

•All on the line!

•Best possible reward

•ETERNAL!!

•Rely on God for that love we need

•Let His love “flow thru”

•Only Bible ….

•Even if it means

•Interrupting

•Chasing down

•Doing all the work

•Stopping the talking and starting the walking!

Let’s be the one who leaves a mark on others … the mark of being loved!
