Summary: The Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros when he was playing in the Irish Open Golf Championship one of the evenings

after playing he turned up at the Club House not wearing a tie.

• The doorman who was undoubtedly being a little too zealous stopped him, and pointed out that Club rules required the wearing of a tie, to which Ballesteros replied, “Do you know who I am.” “Yes, sir,” replied the doorman, but you must still wear a tie.

• “Look, Ballesteros replied, I am the world’s number 1 golfer.” The doorman acknowledged that, and responded, “But you must still wear a tie to get in.”

• At this point, the golfer growing evermore frustrated with the doorman declared, “Look, if I wanted to I could buy this clubhouse and the entire club.”

• “In that case”, replied the doorman, “you can afford to buy a tie.”

A question that is often asked about the Lord is; “WHO IS HE?”

Mankind have never been short of opinions when it comes to Jesus Christ.

There has always been a variety of answers as to who people said He was.

• Some said that He was the carpenter’s son

• Some said that He was God in the flesh

• Some said that He was the devil

• Some said that He was an impostor or a deceiver

• Some said that He was one of the prophets

• Mikhail Gorbachev said, the former Soviet Union leader, said, “Jesus was the first socialist, the first to seek a better life for mankind.”

• Napoleon said, “I know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men would die for Him.”

• H.G. Wells said, “I am an historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.”

• Einstein said, “As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene... No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.”

The Lord Jesus asked this question in another way; “WHOM DO MEN SAY THAT I AM?”

The Lord asked His disciples this question, and their answer is recorded in Matthew 16:14-16. We read, “And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

WHO IS CHRIST?

Peter hit the nail on the head, when he said, “…Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

We know that He is the Son of the living God, and we assume that people have always known that, but that is not so.

Illus: A new Pew Research Center survey of more than 4,700 U.S. adults finds that one-third of Americans say they do not believe in the God of the Bible, but that they do believe there is some other higher power or spiritual force in the universe.

Christianity is on the DECLINE and ATHEISM is on the INCLINE in this great country of ours.

Illus: I can remember growing up we heard about atheism but we personally did not know anyone who was an atheist.

One-third of the Americans in this Pew Research Center said they do not believe in the God of the Bible.

Christianity is on the DECLINE IN AMERICA!!!

Jesus ask us another question in Luke 18:8 asks, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

The Bible teaches that when Jesus returns, He will find the majority of the world’s population being unfaithful and disobedient to His teachings.

We assume that everyone knows who the LORD JESUS IS….But this is not the case!!!

It is our Job to tell them.

The Bible tells us we are debtors!!!

Romans 1:14-16 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
