Summary: THE JUDGE

Psalm 50 THE JUDGE (1-3) God summons all humanity to the trial.

1. His Strength - 1 The mighty God,

2. His Sovereignty - even the Lord,

3. His Speech - hath spoken,

4. His Summons - and called

5. His Sphere - the earth

6. His Scope - from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof

II. THE JUSTICE -

A Personnal Judgment - 3 Our God shall come,

A Promised Judgment - and shall not keep silence:

A Pure Judgment - a fire shall devour before him,

A Passionate Judgment - and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.

A Proclaimed Judgment - 4 He shall call to the heavens from above,

A Pointed Judgment - and to the earth,

A Purposeful Judgment - that he may judge his people.

A Perfect Judgment - 6 the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

III. THE JUDGED -

Their Standing - 5 Gather my saints together unto me

Their Sacrifice those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice

Their Saviour - 6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness:

Their Settlement - 6 for God is judge himself. Selah.

IV. THE JUDGMENT (8-23)

A. What God Denies - God Does Not Need

1. Our Speech - 7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.

2. Our Sacrifices - 8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.

3. Our Sin Offerings - 9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. - he owns everything on earth!

B. What God Desires -

Our Praise - 14 Offer unto God thanksgiving;

Our Purity - and pay thy vows unto the most High:

Our Prayers - 15 and call upon me in the day of trouble:

Our Preservation - I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

C. What God Despises (16-21)

Their Ways - 16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?

17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.

Their Works - 18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him,

and hast been partaker with adulterers.

Their Words - 19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.

20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother;

thou slanderest thine own mother’s son.

Their Willfulness - 21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

D. What God Declares -

Divine Condemnation - 22 Now consider this, ye that forget God,

lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

Divine Consolation - 23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
