The Love of God, A Golden Psalm
A sub-title for this Psalm reading is “A Michtam of David (The Psalmist). So, let’s look at the meaning of MICHTAM first. In Strong’s Concordance, Michtam (Mik’ tam) it is defined as a “type of psalm”. In Hitchcock’s, Smith’s and the ATS Bible Dictionaries it is defined as meaning “golden”, thus a golden psalm.
David was a prolific writer of the Psalms, which for the most part are expressions of LOVE and ATONEMENT. That should evoke some thought, I would think. Even though the Psalms were written before the coming of Christ and the resurrection, we cannot escape the message of God’s love for us in the atonement of our sins in the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus the Christ.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” Leviticus 17:11
“And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.” Hebrews 9:22
Only Jesus satisfies God’s requirement of a perfect, sinless person who was sacrificed in our stead. Therefore, Jesus is the only way.
David’s precious words are directed to God. What so often escapes us in reading and digesting Scripture is the fact that God is the TRIUNE GOD. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus always was! Jesus was a recipient of David’s words as God the Son.
David was so very expressive in his love for God. We might just take that lesson and incorporate it in our lives. Maybe we should add a little more expression of our love for God, in our praises, thanksgivings, entreaties and witnessing for Him. What do you think? Is there room in your worship for more expressions of love for God – our Triune God.
Let us pray: Almighty God, how truly mighty You are! We bask in Your love and seek to express our devotion and love for You in all aspects of our lives, in words, in our walk and in our testimonies. Our love to You pales in comparison as we seek to live out that love. May we be more expressive and may our love emanate from the very depths of our being beyond simple words. - AMEN
Let us now go forth loving and serving God by loving and serving each other – EVERY each other.
