THE PERIL OF DISOBEDIENCE

OBSERVATION: JONAH WAS A PROPHET WHO TRIED TO RUN FROM GOD’S CALL. GOD SINGLED THIS MAN OUT FOR A STRATEGIC MISSION. HE WAS TO WARN THE PEOPLE OF NINEVEH TO REPENT OF THEIR SINS AND WORSHIP JEHOVAH GOD. JONAH STRUGGLED WITH GOD’S DIRECTIVE AND RAN.

INTERPRETATION: READ JONAH 2: 1-7

POINTS TO PONDER: JONAH BOARDED A FISHING BOAT AND STEPPED ALONE WHEN A STORM AROSE. A HORRIBLE STORM AROSE AND HE CONFESSED HE CAUSED THE TROUBLE. HOWEVER, THEY DREW LOTS AS TO DECIDE WHO CAUSED THEIR PROBLEMS: JONAH DREW THE LOT AND WAS THROWN OVERBOARD. HE ENDED UP IN THE BELLY OF A LARGE FISH FOR THREE DAYS AND NIGHTS!

JONAH’S CALLED OUT TO YAHWEH FOR HELP. EVEN THOUGH HE FELT FAR AWAY FROM GOD, HIS THOUGHTS TURNED TOWARDS HIM. HE REACHED UPWARD TO HIS HEAVENLY FATHERS DWELLING PLACE.

YOUR SOUL CAN BE FILLED WITH DOUBT AND DESPAIR. NO GREATER MERCY CAN YOU HAVE IN YOUR TRIALS THAN PRAYERFUL, DEPENDENCE IN GOD.

READ PSALM 142: 1-3. IN A CAVE AND OVERWHELMED WITH ADVERSITY FROM HIS ENEMIES, KIN DAVID CALLED TO THE LORD TO RESCUE HIM.

DO NOT FORGET GOD REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER ELSE IS FORGOTTEN.

APPLICATION: GOD COMES TO YOU WITH GRACE AS HE DID JONAH. IN YOUR FAILED OBEDIENCE, HE EXTENDS HIS GRACE AND GIVES YOU ANOTHER CHANCE TO OBEY HIM. THANK THE LORD FOR GIVING YOU A SECOND CHANCE! GOD ANSWERED HIS PRAYER AND SAVED HIM.
