THE REASONS WHY CHILDREN SHOULD BE DEDICATED

Written by Pastor Ndayiragije Misigaro Joel; December 9, 2022

1 Samuel 1:28 “So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.”

God has promised to always bless everything brought in for dedication to Him. Scripture shows that in many ways. Not only being set apart, but enjoying all the benefits from above, and God will continue to be gracious to them if they live.

There are principles that follow the dedication of everything. Children's dedication is another way of saying to God; Thank you for providing the child for us, and we are giving him back to you. As in the past culture of dedication, offerings used to accompany dedication.

"King Solomon offered as a sacrifice twenty-two thousand oxen and one hundred twenty thousand sheep. So, the king and all the people dedicated the house of God." 2 Chronicles 7:5 (NRSV)

1. THE PLANS AND LIFE OF THE CHILD IS ESTABLISHED.

The Oxford Dictionary defines "Established" as: having existed or done something for a long time and therefore recognized and generally accepted.

Proverbs 16:3 ""Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established."

We can see what it says here that any work that you commit to the Lord is blessed and all the plans established.

2. THERE IS LIFE WHEN CHILDREN ARE DEDICATED.

In the past, you will see that, if a man had built a new house and failed to dedicate it to the Lord, it was for such a man to go back and do what was right. Otherwise, if he went into the battle, chances were that he was likely to die or be killed. Why? Because he has not obeyed God in recognizing Him as the provider, ask yourself a question. Where is the connection between dedicating a new house and going to war?

Many things are wrong in our lives! Because we have failed to do what was right for God. So, even children who are not dedicated are not secure, but here it shows you the consequences of not dedicating what you have as new for God, simple as that. And putting your allegiance to God is void.

Deuteronomy 20:5 “The officers also should speak to the people, saying, ‘Who is the man that has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would dedicate it”

3. DEDICATION IS AN ACT OF SANCTIFICATION.

Exodus 13:2 “Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.”

Luke 2:23 “as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”.

And this is not to speak only of the firstborn, but to every child. Parents ought to bring their children in for dedication. And by doing so, it is sanctifying and blessing them.

(Luke 2:22) speaks of the days of purification. And it is not scriptural, to bring the children for dedication without having an offering for them, or anything else brought in to be dedicated should be accompanied by an offering. (Luke 2:24) If you check the value of a pair of turtledoves nowadays in some developed countries, it costs approximately $450 in 2021, as per the search on google, and the price will vary

This is an indication of what the dedication should be more like, but does this ring a bell on what Christians are doing here?

CONCLUSION

When the servants of God, pastors finish appealing for that delivered to be dedicated, there is fire that comes down, and the glory from above overshadows the children or anything else that forms the dedication. “Now when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the house.” 2 Chronicles 7:1
