Summary: Romans 8:25b-26 ...But hope [the object of] which is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait eagerly for it with patience and composure.

According to "Bible Study Tools" The word Hope in Hebrew is:

1. Yachal which means: Waiting on God, Waiting on His word, Waiting on His certain action continually and waiting Right(Righteously). Its Hope that gives man the Excellence that is needed in waiting and the Lord rewards that Excellence.

Job 13:15-16 15 Though he slay me, Iwill hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face. 16 This will be my salvation, that the godless shall not come before him.

Psalms 71:14-15 14 But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. 15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge.

2. Tiqvah which means to Expect certain outcome or anticipate for certain thing (Guaranteed) Psalms 37:4-6 4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices.

Genuine Hope is accompanied by Joy, confidence and Trust. Hope is like a communicable disease it spreads quickly and is transferable. You can give someone hope, when you have that hope, you can transfer that confidence, Trust and Joy to the one that does not have.

2 corinthians 1:3-4 3 Blessed [gratefully praised and adored] be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. 4 who comforts and encourages us in every trouble so that we will be able to comfort and encourage those who are in any kind of trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

The content of believer’s Hope (What Builds up believer’s Hope):

1. God’s Forgiveness: The fact that God forgave us and saved us at our worst, this is enough to give you hope in Him that there is nothing else He can fail to do for us.

Psalms 32:1-2 1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

2 Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.

Romans 5:7-8 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

2. The Promised Glory

Romans 8:18 18 For I consider [from the standpoint of faith] that the sufferings of the present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us!

Isaiah 43:18-19 18 “Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. 19 “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.#

3. Faith

For us believers everything we do must begin with Faith and last with Faith. This is how our hope is ignited and sustained.

2 Corinthians 1:24 24 not that we rule [like dictators] over your faith, but rather we work with you for [the increase of] your joy; for in your faith you stand firm [in your strong conviction that Jesus of Nazareth—the Messiah—is the Son of God, through whom we obtain eternal salvation].

4. Holy Spirit of God –John 14:26( He is our Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby)

5. The Living word of God

Psalms 119:43, 47-48, 165 43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your rules.

47 for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love. 48 I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.

92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.

What is the value of Hope?

1. Hope Stays us on God

Helps us wait on God and seek Him even in the midst of war. We ought to shine with Hope even in the midst of impossibility.

Romans 5:3-5 3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
