Summary: The work is great but the laborers are few. The warfare is heated but the hearts of many are cold. The witnesses are needed but many are idle. We need to give ourselves “fully” to the work of the Lord.
THE WORK OF THE LORD
INTRODUCTION: In tribute to my friend Truman Kimbrough. I borrowed this from him.
The work is great but the laborers are few. The warfare is heated but the hearts of many are cold. The witnesses are needed but many are idle. We need to give ourselves “fully” to the work of the Lord.
When it comes to the work of the Lord we must:
I. Not Trifle
Don’t play around. Be steadfast (firm, settled). Be determined. Will we trifle like Samson? Leave like John Mark? Forsake like Demas? Run like the disciples? What we need are men of faith like Abraham, men of faithfulness like Joseph, men of conviction like Daniel and men of action like Peter.
We are told to be unmovable. Don’t let anything move you from the work – not pleasures, ambitions, occupations, families or friends.
We are told to abound in His work. That means to excel. It’s not doing the bare minimum or just enough to get by. Be sound. Stand your ground and always abound!
II. Be Watchful
It is serious and dangerous work. This is warfare not a play ground. It’s a battle not an amusement. The enemy is strong and wicked so we must be armed.
III. Not Delay
The door of opportunity may only open once. Be instant in season and out of season.
IV. Be Careful
The Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Temptations abound. We are all tempted to quit. But remember, it’s the Lord’s work.
V. Not Faint
The reward will be glorious. Your work is not in vain. You shall reap if you faint not. Fight the good fight. Finish the course. Keep the faith. A crown of righteousness awaits. We will see the fruit of our labor.
CONCLUSION: We’re involved in the Lord’s work! Get busy.
