The Working Of The Spirit In And Through Us

I. Baptism of the Spirit. (vs.2-6)
A. Baptism of the Spirit is becoming saved
B. 1Co 12:13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
C. We are regenerated
D. In contrast the indwelling of the Spirit is where the Spirit is.
E. The Spirit takes up residence in us.
F. These are not the same thing.
II. Gifts of the Spirit. (Vs. 11-12)
A. A divinely bestowed ability given to every true believer in Jesus in order to serve the church.
B. Those who say they can stay home and be a Christian can. They are just disobedient because their gift is not being served in the church.
C. Our salvation is not about us that we can stay home and keep it private or to ourselves.
D. This gift is in contrast to our human talents.
E. Its purpose is threefold:
1. To serve the family of God
2. To enhance the body of Christ
3. To move the church forward
F. The difference in natural abilities from Spiritual gifts is the results they produce.
G. The results of Spiritual gifts is always beyond what human ability can account for.
III. Filling of the Spirit. (v.21)
A. This is what the Spirit empowers us to do.
This is being in submission to God
C. Rather than be under the influence of things of this world be under the influence of the Spirit of God.
D. The lost cannot be under this influence.
E. Fill yourself with the Spirit, give into the Spirit, submit yourself to the Spirit.
Conclusion:
All these things from the Spirit are for all believers.
They are all received by the believer at the time of salvation.
There is no extra gift or measure of the Spirit that is received at a later date.
