Summary: It is altogether proper that we pay tribute to the memory of those who have died in the defense of our freedom, but we must never cease to remember the wonderful things we have as a result of the death of our Savior on Calvary.
“THEN I REMEMBERED”
“Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 11:16.
Memorial Day is a holiday designated as a day of remembrance. Tomorrow, in national cemeteries across our land, we will pay tribute to the brave men and women who have given their lives to make possible our freedom. This is altogether proper. The Christian is called to remember the wonderful blessings our Lord made possible for us by His death on the cross.
I. A RELATIONSHIP WHICH NOTHING CAN DISSOLVE
"For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus." Gal. 3:26.
"Beloved, now we are the children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We know that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is." I John 3:2. NASB
"The Spirit, Himself, bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ." Romans 8:16-17.
II. A LIFE WHICH WILL NOT END
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give to them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any one pluck them out of My hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand." John 10:27-29.
III. A RIGHTEOUSNESS WHICH NOTHING CAN TARNISH
"For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him." II Corinthians 5:21.
IV. A PEACE WHICH SURPASSES ALL COMPREHENSION
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because his trust is in Thee." Isaiah 26:3.
V. AN INHERITANCE WHICH WILL NOT FADE AWAY
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance, which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you." I Peter 1:3-4.
