Summary: A look at things which keep the believer from hearing God.

“Things Which Keep You From Hearing God”

Text: Matthew 13:10-17

Intro:

I want to preach from verse 15, “their ears are dull of hearing”

I want us from the Word of God to look at some “Things Which Keep You and I From Hearing God.”

Prosperity – Jeremiah 22:21

“I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear”

II. Turned Heart – Deuteronomy 30:17

“But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear”

Drawn away.

Satan uses things of this world to draw us away from God.

He gets us distracted.

III. Stubbornness – 2 Kings 17:14

“Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.”

See 1 Samuel 15:23

King Saul lost his kingdom due to stubbornness

IV. Rebellion – Isaiah 30:9

“That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:”

See 1 Samuel 15:23

King Saul lost his kingdom due to rebellion

“Delighteth In Their Abominations” – Isaiah 66:3-4

Abomination means extreme hatred.

In the context doing things the Lord hates.

See Prov. 6:16-19

Conclusion:

The Bible tells us that a person is “saved by grace through faith”

We know that God’s grace is giving us something as sinner’s we don’t deserve.

The something that God gave us was His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to pay for our sins through His death, burial, and resurrection.

Now, how is the faith we need to be saved obtained?

The Bible tells us in Romans 10:17, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

If a person won’t listen to the words of God then how can he be saved?

He can’t!!!

We have seen this morning “Things Which Keep Us From Hearing God.”

Prosperity

Turned Heart

Stubbornness

Rebellion

Doing Things the Lord Hates

Which one or ones are keeping you from hearing God?
