Discuss the importance of tithing in our faith, emphasizing that it's not just about giving money, but about trust, faith, and acknowledging God as the provider of all we have.

Introduction

Good morning, family. I hope you've all had a blessed week. Today we're going to dive into an issue that isn't always the most comfortable to talk about. It's about money. Yeah, I said it, money. But don't worry, it's not about what you think. We're going to talk about tithing.

If you're wondering why we're discussing this, it's because it's an important part of our faith and our relationship with God.

So let's look at what Malachi 3:8 tells us:

"Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, 'How are we robbing you?' In tithes and offerings."

You see, tithing is not just about giving money. It’s about trust, faith, and acknowledging God as the provider of all we have.

An act of worship: When we tithe, we are essentially offering a part of ourselves to God. It is a physical manifestation of our spiritual commitment to Him. It is a way of saying, 'God, I am willing to put you first in my life.' This act of worship is not just about the amount we give, but it is about the attitude of our hearts as we give. It is about giving cheerfully and not out of compulsion or guilt.

Participating in God's work on earth: The funds that are given through tithing are used to support the church and its ministries. This includes supporting the pastoral staff, maintaining the church building, and funding various outreach programs that help spread the gospel and serve the community. When we tithe, we are not just giving money, we are investing in the kingdom of God.

Demonstrating our trust in God: When we tithe, we are saying, 'God, I trust you to provide for my needs.' This is a powerful statement of faith, especially in a world where financial security is often a major concern. Tithing is a way of declaring that our trust is in God and not in our wealth or possessions.

Cultivating a generous spirit: The act of giving helps us to become less attached to our material possessions and more focused on the things of God. It helps us to develop a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity. It reminds us that we are blessed to be a blessing to others.

Aligning our priorities with God's priorities: When we give our first fruits to God, we are saying that He is our top priority. We are saying that we value His kingdom more than our own comfort or desires. This act of prioritizing God helps us to live in alignment with His will and His purposes.

Expressing our gratitude to God: It is a way of saying, 'Thank you, God, for all the blessings you have given me.' This act of gratitude helps us to keep a proper perspective on our wealth and possessions. It reminds us that we are stewards of God's resources and not the owners.

The Importance of Tithing

The importance of tithing is not just a mere act of giving, but it is a spiritual discipline that reflects our faith, trust, and commitment to God. Tithing is a way of acknowledging that everything we have comes from God. It is a way of saying, 'God, I recognize you as the source of all my blessings and I am returning a portion of what you've given me back to you.'
