Summary: God's plan is THE SEED PLAN. You may count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the apples in a seed. We measure success by what we are reaping... Maybe God is counting success by what you are planting today? Can we see the beauty of the seed?

TRUSTING THE MUSTARD SEED OF FAITH

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com (Series on seeds)

I have little medicine baggies (from Walmart or Hobby Lobby) I have randomly placed 10 seeds, bean, corn, mustard, tomato, flower, etc. seeds in each bag. As an attention getter I have DONUT SEEDS, really cheerio’s. I explain the story of the good seeds and tares. Somebody might have taken the donut seeds and placed cheerios in the small bag of seeds?

THE POWER OF A SEED? Recorded in Matthew 13, Matthew 17, Mark 4, Luke 13, and Luke 17.

I have been a pastor 39+ years. (31 here.) I often stand peering and praying out the glass doors of the door and I dream of what could be. Many times I ask God to send me finished wood to build the church. (Workers that are ready to plow and sow seeds and reap the harvest.) I was sitting in a metal chair at the doors, praying for more helpers. All of a sudden Jesus was before me and said: I HAVE HEARD YOUR PRAYERS, I BRING A GIFT TO YOU. HE REACHED HIS HAND BEFORE ME AND GAVE ME 5 OR 6 ACORNS! I said: ACORNS? I DON’T WANT ACORNS, I WANT FINISHED LUMBER IN LARGE AMOUNTS TO GROW YOUR CHURCH. Jesus just looked at me and left me sitting there with 5 OR 6 ACORNS… I knew Jesus was saying: TRUST ME, WITH TIME THE HARVEST WILL COME. DON’T BE COUNTING WHAT YOU ARE REAPING TODAY RATHER COUNT THE SEEDS YOU ARE PLANTING. YOU MUST PLANT TO REAP. Seems everyone wants to reap. Few want to sew, water and nurture people.

YOU CAN COUNT THE SEEDS IN AN APPLE… BUT ONLY GOD CAN COUNT THE APPLES THAT ARE IN A SEED!

I read a poem where the robin and a sparrow had been singing all morning. The two birds got into a discussion as they watched the humans. The robin was talking to the sparrow and said: “I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THEM HUMANS ARE SO WORRIED? They are so busy running around in a deep depression and are having panic attacks, what is wrong with them? The sparrow answered the robin: Well, they must not have a HEAVENLY FATHER TO TAKE CARE OF THEM LIKE WE DO? (Elizabeth Cheney)

John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

A seed has a protective coat. But we know the seed has to “AWAKEN.” We call that germination. The seed must know the cold, damp ground… then the warmth of the sun starts shining down.

GOD BUILT HIS SYSTEM ON THE VALUE OF THE SEED. THIS LITTLE BAG OF SEEDS ARE SLEEPING POWER? WE PLANT SEEDS BY FAITH. THE SOWING PRODUCES THE HARVEST.

IT IS GOOD: MISERY MUST ALWAYS FALL IN FRONT OF MERCY… ALL LIFE STARTS AS A SEED… AND SEEDS PRODUCES LIFE, LIFE ENDS WITH DEATH OR DORMANCY … THAT DEATH BRINGS FORTH LIFE.

I have always been in great awe of seeds. That little acorns holds the blue print for a mighty oak. I have also learned that the sickly oaks from sickly acorns grow. God’s kingdom is built on the law of the seed… SOW then REAP.

Genesis 1:11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

WE HAD A TRUTH AT OUR HOUSE: NEVER EAT THE SEED CORN…

As a child we grew huge gardens. We would can and freeze and store the harvest for food for the winter. Dad would always save some of the prettiest seeds for the next year. Dad would store the seeds in quart jars to keep them dry and ready for spring. WE HAD A RULE: NEVER EAT THE SEEDS FOR NEXT YEAR.

We must do more than plow the ground… fertilize the ground… we must plant the seeds… and BY FAITH WE MUST WATER THE SEEDS. We must hate the weeds. Patience before the harvest.

You can only reap what you sow. You will reap in proportion of what you sow. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE SEED.

HAGAR HAD PLANTED SOME BAD, MEAN, FLESHLY SEED… YET GOD’S MERCY IS EXTENDED… THE SEED LIVES.
