Summary: Esther experiences her first task

That evening, they were taken to the king's private rooms, the next morning brought to a second harem where the king's lived. There they were under the care of Shaashgaz, the eunuch in charge of the concubines. The woman wouldn't see the king again unless he enjoyed her and requested her by name.

When it was Esther's turn to go before the king, she accepted the advice of Hegai which she asked for nothing except what he suggested. This resulted in her being admired by everyone...including the king. Esther was selected as queen and a great banquet was given in her honor. Mordecai was made a palace official as well. Esther continued to keep her nationality and family background a secret and follow Mordecai's directions like she did when she lived with him. Esther 2:13-20

Sometime later, Bigthana and Teresh; the king's eunuchs who guarded the door of the king's private quarters, became angry at King Xerxes, and plotted to assassinate him. It is unknown what happened to bring about such an angry response, but sometimes God prefers to keep somethings private. However, Mordecai heard about the plot and told Queen Esther about it. She reported it to her husband and gave Mordecai credit for the report. An investigation was launched, and Mordecai's story was found to be true. The two eunuchs were executed, and the event was recorded in The Book of the History of King Xerxes Reign. Esther 2:21-23.

Here are a few lessons in this. First, try not to let the anger take you to such a place that you want to do physical harm to a person. While it's a normal human emotion, it's not worth the trouble. Second, there is ALWAYS someone listening or watching. A lot of people think they can do whatever they want, and nobody will find out.

While it's true that the truth can stay buried for many years, it will find its way out. And finally, give credit where it's due. NEVER take all the glory for yourself if another person helped you in a project that went well. Also, if you had several people help you get through a bad season, give every person equal credit when you come out of it. NEVER give one person all the credit or give credit to some but not others. This will lead to eventual strife because partiality should never be shown.
