This sermon emphasizes the strength and victory found in submission to God, encouraging believers to surrender their will and seek His kingdom first.

Introduction

Beloved in Christ, I am grateful to be standing before you today, as we gather in unity to break the bread of God's word. It is with a heart full of anticipation that I invite you to join me in unearthing the treasures of God's wisdom, as we focus our hearts and minds on the theme of submission.

In the world we live in today, the idea of submission is often misunderstood and even frowned upon. It is seen as a sign of weakness or defeat. But in the kingdom of God, submission is a strength. It is a surrender that leads to victory, a supplication that leads to provision, and the pathway to true success.

Let us turn to the Scriptures, from the book of James, chapter 4 verses 7-10, we read, "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." And from the book of Matthew, chapter 6 verse 10, "your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." Finally, Ephesians chapter 5 verses 15-20, "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Submission as Surrender

The act of surrendering to God is a demonstration of trust and faith in His divine power and wisdom. It is a conscious decision to let go of our own understanding and to lean on God's infinite wisdom. When we surrender to God, we acknowledge that His ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We recognize that He sees the end from the beginning and that He has a plan for our lives that is far greater than anything we could ever imagine.

Surrendering to God means letting go of our desires and plans and embracing God's will for our lives. We should be trusting in His goodness and faithfulness, even when we don't understand His ways.

Surrendering to God also means acknowledging our limitations and recognizing our need for His grace and mercy. It’s okay to admit that we can't do it on our own, that we need His strength and guidance. It means coming to Him with a humble heart, acknowledging our sins and shortcomings, and asking for His forgiveness and cleansing.

Surrendering to God is a daily decision. It is a choice we make each day, each moment, to submit to His authority and to follow His lead. It is a continuous process of dying to self and living for Christ. It is a journey of faith, a journey of trust, a journey of surrender.

The act of surrendering to God requires humility, courage, and faith. We must let go of our pride, our fears, and our doubts. Remember that the rewards of surrendering to God are immeasurable. When we surrender to God, we experience His peace, His joy, His love, and His grace. We experience the freedom that comes from living in His will and walking in His ways.

Transition. So, let us surrender to God. Let us trust in His wisdom and His ways. Let us submit to His authority and follow His lead. Let us live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to Him, a life that is fully surrendered to Him. For in surrendering to God, we find true freedom, true joy, and true peace.
